What is Shift best for?

These concise facts explain what Shift is, who it serves, how it works, and where its limits are, so people and answer engines can understand the product without guessing.

What is Shift?

Shift is an iPhone and iPad planner for rotating shift work. It combines cycle templates, shift-aware alarms, and hour totals inside one schedule calendar.

Who should use it?

Nurses, factory operators, police, firefighters, security guards, transit drivers, hotel staff, caregivers, and anyone rotating through day, evening, night, and off shifts.

How does it work?

Choose or create a shift cycle, then apply it to a date range. The calendar fills the month automatically, while alarms and hour totals stay attached to each shift.

What problem does it solve?

It removes repeated day-by-day schedule entry, manual hour counting, and fragile night-shift alarm setup, especially for shifts that cross midnight.

How is data handled?

Schedules stay on the device by default. Shift does not send your rota to our servers unless you intentionally share or export it; purchases are processed by Apple.

What is it not?

Shift is not an enterprise workforce-management or payroll-approval system. It is a personal and family tool for keeping rotating work life understandable.

How is Shift different from calendars or workforce tools?

Shift focuses on the worker's personal rota, not general event management or employer-side scheduling workflows.

Focus A personal rota calendar for fast cycle filling, shift alarms, and hour review. General calendars focus on events; enterprise tools focus on team scheduling and approvals.
Cycles Define a 3-shift, 4-shift, weekend, or custom cycle once and reuse it across date ranges. General calendars often require repeated manual events; enterprise tools are usually configured by managers.
Alarms Alarms follow shifts, including a 23:00 to 07:00 night shift treated as one work block. Standard alarms ring at fixed times; calendar reminders do not understand shift semantics.
